The Vehuhane (Basubiya) village of Satau lies about 112 km, west of Kasane. Like Kachikau and Parakarungu, Satau is on the flood plains of the Chobe River. It is the home of the Vekuhane people and is located on the route to the wildlife extravaganza of the Savuti and Linyanti. It is claimed that the name ‘Satau’ is derived from Setswana ‘Sekgwa sa Tau’ or Lion Forest (or Nandavwe in the Chikuhane language).
A village rich in culture and heritage, basket weaving, pottery with a touch of art is no exception to the beauty the village offers. The most eye-catching part of the Heritage is the seperu folk dance, which is performed by the Vekuhane community on ceremonial and festive occasions.
