Welcome to Kavimba

Kavimba is the seat of Vekuhane (Basubiya) crown.

History

Kavimba is the seat of Vekuhane (Basubiya) crown. The Vekuhane are the largest ethnic group found in the Chobe and stretches to neighbouring countries of Namibia, Angola and Zambia. Most residents of Kavimba moved to the present site from Munga in the northwest under the leadership of Sinvula Nkonkwena (1928- 1968), around 1955.

From 1912 to 1916 Kavimba had been settled by the followers of the banished Batawana Kgosi Sekgoma Letsholathebe. It is said that when BaSekgoma arrived at Kavimba, they found only two families of Basubiya in the area. Following the deaths of Sekgoma in 1914 and his son David in 1916 the BaSekgoma resettled at Old Kachikau.

Like other Chobe enclave villages, the Kavimba lies on the banks of the river and is located between Mabele and Kachikau villages.
