Muchenje/Mabele provide the once in a lifetime dugout canoe excursions
There are many forms of safari activity in Africa but few can match the unique Mokoro or dugout canoe excursions in the Chobe, where silence is one of the highlights. Guided by experienced polers among the river people, the excursions are best enjoyed on a bright day.
What is a Mokoro?
Once carved from a tree trunk, and now produced in more environmentally-friendly fibre-glass, a Mokoro is a traditional canoe used to negotiate the channels of the Chobe River. It is used in other parts of Africa but nowhere has it been as celebrated as it has in Chobe.
